Scope report January 2026 Did you happen to read the latest issue of Firing Lines, the SCOPE bi-monthly printed magazine? If you don’t get it by mail as a SCOPE member, it’s available digitally at www.scopeny2a.org. Personally I prefer the digital version as it saves SCOPE on printing and mailing costs. We all have to watch our expenses these days. What I find significant about this issue is that there are articles written by three members of the newly formed Chemung County Chapter of SCOPE. Our small county is well represented in this issue, especially being so new a chapter. Tom Reynolds, Jarrod Lomozik, and I all have articles in this issue. Pretty good for a new chapter if I do say so myself. The SCOPE Candidate Rating Committee is in full swing, obtaining information on all candidates in the 2026 NYS Congressional, State Senate, and Governor races. We’ll be sending out a questionnaire to all candidates possible, and will create a rating based upon returned questionnaires, any voting records available, and media sources. We plan on having ratings available for the NYS primaries on June 23, 2026, and the general election on November 3, 2026. These will be published in the Firing Lines preceding each of these dates, along with distributing them to as many media sources as possible. SCOPE does not endorse, but does provide information and education to enable informed decision making when it comes time to vote. And vote we must, as each election is critical to at least maintaining what little rights we have. Encourage others to register to vote as well. The Voter registration deadline to vote in a primary is June 13, 2026. The deadline for voting in the General election is October 24, 2026. I’ll start work shortly to obtain a guest speaker at our next meeting of the Chemung County Chapter of Scope, to be held on March 25, 2026 at 6:30pm at the Pine City Sportsmen’s Club on Mountain View Dr, in Pine City. It’s going to be fun as I’ll have just arrived from Florida the day before. |
Scope report December 2025 First news is that the new NYS Legislative session starts January 7, 2026. So we’ll look forward to the continuation of all the bills from 2025 that are still in play, plus the new ones that will be introduced this session. Know that SCOPE is always hard at work keeping you abreast of pending legislation that affects our 2nd Amendment rights. SCOPE has our 10 most egregious bills list, which gets periodically updated. Of note though is that those 10 are not the only bills that can affect us adversely, others may seem to slip through the cracks. It’s up to each of us to be informed of other legislative efforts as well. And by writing to our representatives, by snail mail or e-mail or phone call, we can let them know how their constituents feel about the issues. SCOPE is currently working on Candidate rating information for the 2026 elections. These ratings will be compiled from questionnaires returned by candidates, as well as public record and media releases. All to help inform you of where the candidates stand on our most important issues. SCOPE cannot and never endorses candidates, merely inform you of potential regarding our rights. You choose who you vote for. Locally, in case any don’t know, we are now certified as the Chemung County Chapter of SCOPE. Our meetings for 2026 are scheduled for the 4th Wednesday of the particular months we meet. So March 25, June 24, August 26, and October 28. These are held at Pine City Sportsmen’s Club, 187 Mountain View Dr, Pine City, NY. We are working to obtain guest speakers at many meetings to provide you additional information and insights from various sources, including local and state government, and other select topic people. While I’m in Florida we’ll suspend the 50/50 raffle drawings we have at each club meeting to gain funds for our chapter use. Thanks to all who have supported us. We’ll pick it back up when I return for the April meetings, and we’ll try Chad’s suggestion to make it a monthly drawing, see if that pulls in more funds. Lastly, we discovered we have a Chemung County SCOPE Facebook page. Started back in 2014, we are continuing use of this valuable social media platform. Thank you. |
