From the Chairman's Desk

I hope you are enjoying our wonderful summer and that this message finds you at peace, healthy and doing well, as I share a few items here for you to keep in mind.

We are not holding the July monthly meeting due to summer activities and vacations. We will resume in August on our normal meeting date of the 4th Wednesday, on August 26, at 6:30 pm.

Third quarter State SCOPE raffle tickets will be available at the meeting for purchase.

The State SCOPE-led initiative called Get Out to Vote (GOTV) material will be in our hands by that time. I’m looking for helping hands to assist in handing it to FFLs and businesses.

The monthly training at our August 26th meeting will be based on the conclusion of the “Home Invasion Series” regarding proper procedures on what to do and how to proceed if intruders enter your home.

Erie County Chapter of SCOPE has partnered with the Gowanda Rifle Club to bring our members a SCOPE Range Day on Saturday Sept. 19 from 9 am – 3 pm with live firearms training. Save the date, and you’ll receive more details at our August 26 meeting. You can also watch our Erie County SCOPE Facebook page and the State SCOPE website under Erie County Chapter for details.

As promised, this is a continuation of our training segment offered to you as an Erie County Chapter SCOPE member. Instructions will be offered in hand gun, rifle and shotgun. Bring your preferred firearm(s) and ammunition and we will provide the instruction. Coaching will be given from NRA and NYS DCJS-authorized instructors. We suggest a $20 donation for the day to benefit Erie County SCOPE and the Gowanda Rifle Club.

We hope to see you in August.  Stay safe, stay informed, and be prepared.

Respectfully,

Mark Drews

  Buffalo residents:  Get INVOLVED

   May 27th:
We had another great meeting last week with 35 in attendance. To the left are a few photos of the training provided to attendees on “What to do with firearms upon death”, more “Legals”, and “Concealed Carry Platforms (Holsters)”.

Thanks to James Murphy, member and owner of Criminal Justice Professionals Training and Consulting, LLC for his continued assistance in teaching these topics.  We received good ideas from members on topics they would like to learn about at future meetings.

February 25th

Erie County Court Clerk Mickey Kearns appeared for an impromptu visit at 6:30 pm to talk about his business office, streamlining the pistol permit bureau and the DMV offices for quicker visits. He plans to return to formally speak to all members present at a future meeting.

SCOPE Life Member Retired Supreme Court Justice William Boller presented also regarding the pistol permit process. He gave valuable insight on the “to do”s” and “what NOT to do” when filling out applications. He gave interesting stories of practical things to avoid doing with your concealed carry that he has dealt with through the years, that didn’t go so well for the permit holder. He plans to continue to work to support the office a few days a week to help with the workload.

SCOPE President John Elwood was also present and gave his accolades to the Erie County Chapter for our productivity and success. He spoke on current egregious legislation found on the NYSCOPE website and the importance of getting gun owners out to the polls. He encourages all members to bring one person to join the membership.

Thank you to State Senator George Borrello for presenting to Erie County SCOPE on Tues. Oct. 28.
The crowd had great questions about the NYS recently signed domestic violence gun law. Also, we had a much passionate discussion about Hochul's electric mandate for new builds as of Jan. 1, 2026.
He spoke also about Elise Stefanik's probable run in '26 and our upcoming strategies as Patriots to take back NYS.
