From the Chairman's Desk

I hope this message finds everyone healthy and excited with the days getting longer.

A few things I want to touch on:

· The tickets for the Father’s Day Weber Grill Raffle have been printed and are ready to sell. Please contact me and we will make arrangements to get some to you to sell or to purchase. They will also be available to pick up at the meeting on the 25th.

· With all that’s going on in the country with radical groups, I would hope you are carrying your concealed carry firearm. Make sure you fully understand article 35.00 of the NYS Penal Law. If you have any questions, please contact me!

· It’s a very good idea to be part of a Legal Defense Fund. I found a good one and my wife and I have both purchased a membership that covers up to 4 people. It was not that expensive. Come to the meeting and get the details.

· As a reminder, our meetings now start at 6:30 pm. This allows us more time to incorporate a brief training / informational segment towards the end of the meeting. This month we will discuss Article 35.00 of the NYS Penal law – Justification of Defense, and other topics i.e. concealed carry, weapons, ammo, practice and proficiency. The last letter in SCOPE is “E” which stands for education. SCOPE is committed to educating our members on the gun bills and laws of this state, and we are taking it a step further to educate you on how to legally and effectively carry your firearms to protect yourself and your family.

I’m looking forward to seeing you Wednesday, March 25th at 6:30 pm at our monthly meeting.

In an effort to allow more member participation in our planning processes, we are opening up our Monthly Board Meetings to include any Erie County SCOPE member.
We meet in the restaurant area at the Matthew Glab Post at 2 pm and work through the agenda together.
We always look forward to the Daily Special which on Wednesdays is Chicken Wings.  It's a lot of fun and we have a nice time gathering and planning for the meeting together.
Our Board would be so pleased to have members participate in this with us.
Please come out and join us on these afternoons.

February 2026
January 2026

February 25th
Left to Right: Mike Knowles, SCOPE President John Elwood, E.C. Clerk Mickey Kearnes, (Ret) Supreme Court Justice M. William Boller, E.C. Chairman Mark Drews

Erie County Court Clerk Mickey Kearns appeared for an impromptu visit at 6:30 pm to talk about his business office, streamlining the pistol permit bureau and the DMV offices for quicker visits. He plans to return to formally speak to all members present at a future meeting.

SCOPE Life Member Retired Supreme Court Justice William Boller presented also regarding the pistol permit process. He gave valuable insight on the “to do”s” and “what NOT to do” when filling out applications. He gave interesting stories of practical things to avoid doing with your concealed carry that he has dealt with through the years, that didn’t go so well for the permit holder. He plans to continue to work to support the office a few days a week to help with the workload.

SCOPE President John Elwood was also present and gave his accolades to the Erie County Chapter for our productivity and success. He spoke on current egregious legislation found on the NYSCOPE website and the importance of getting gun owners out to the polls. He encourages all members to bring one person to join the membership.

Thank you to State Senator George Borrello for presenting to Erie County SCOPE on Tues. Oct. 28.
The crowd had great questions about the NYS recently signed domestic violence gun law. Also, we had a much passionate discussion about Hochul's electric mandate for new builds as of Jan. 1, 2026.
He spoke also about Elise Stefanik's probable run in '26 and our upcoming strategies as Patriots to take back NYS.
